Special collections looking for a small pot of funding to organise a public engagement event should consider joining in with the Economic and Social Sciences Research Council Festival of Social Sciences. It takes place this year 29 October – 5 November. The ESRC offers support of up to £2,000 to organise an event. Plus they will also list your event in their publicity.
The event can be on any topic within the social sciences and must involve any non-academic audience. In the past, St John’s College special collections, Cambridge received funding to team up with an alumnus, organising a visit for a local secondary school based on science and exploration in the polar regions.
The type of event is up to you. ESRC suggests film screenings, virtual activities, hands on activities, debates, outdoor events, seminars, workshops and exhibitions.
The deadline for funding applications is 3rd June 2011 and, if you are wondering, libraries are eligible within the applicant type ‘Museums, science centres and tourist sites’.
